On March 11, 2026, China National Building Material Group’s Zhongfu Shenying Carbon Fiber Co., Ltd. simultaneously launched the world’s first SYT80 (T1200-grade) ultra-high-strength carbon fiber at three locations: Beijing, the JEC World 2026 exhibition in Paris, and its Lianyungang production base. This milestone makes China the first country in the world to achieve industrial-scale mass production of this grade of carbon fiber, completely breaking the technological monopoly and export controls imposed by the United States and Japan on high-end carbon fiber above T1000 grade.
Known as the “pinnacle of materials science,” T1200-grade carbon fiber has a diameter less than one-tenth of a human hair, with an engineered tensile strength stably exceeding 8056MPa—14% higher than T1100 grade. It boasts a tensile modulus of 324GPa, elongation at break of 2.5%, and bulk density of only 1.79g/cm³, making it 10 times stronger than ordinary steel but just one-quarter the density. Laboratory simulations show that a single standard bundle of T1200 carbon fiber can withstand the extreme load of pulling two C919 large passenger aircraft, placing its lightweight and high-strength properties among the world’s top levels.
This breakthrough is the result of a decade of technological accumulation and full-industry-chain independent innovation by Zhongfu Shenying. In 2017, the company, in collaboration with Donghua University, mastered the core “dry-jet wet-spinning” technology, establishing a fully independent process system from precursor preparation and carbonization treatment to surface modification. Addressing the extreme sensitivity of T1200-grade carbon fiber to microscopic defects, the team built the world’s first carbon fiber defect database, precisely identifying defect formation mechanisms. After thousands of formula optimizations, they finally achieved stable control of the fiber’s fine-grained structure. Meanwhile, all key production equipment, from polymerization kettles to carbonization furnaces, has been localized, with 100% independent control over the entire process chain including precursors, carbonization, and surface treatment.
Currently, Zhongfu Shenying has achieved stable operation of its 100-ton production line. Its Lianyungang high-performance carbon fiber production base has a designed capacity of 31,000 tons with 10 planned universal production lines, forming the world’s largest product matrix covering “high-strength, high-modulus, and large-tow” carbon fibers.
This breakthrough not only fills a technological gap in the global high-end materials sector but also propels China’s carbon fiber industry from “following” to “leading,” injecting core momentum into strategic emerging industries such as aerospace, low-altitude economy, humanoid robots, and new energy vehicles.
With the large-scale application of T1200-grade carbon fiber, structural weight reduction for China’s high-end equipment can exceed 10%, and for eVTOL aircraft and industrial drones, it can reach 20%-40%, comprehensively accelerating the lightweight and high-performance upgrading of related industries.
